1LT David Lawrence Gloer graduated from Minden High School in Minden, Louisiana, in 1961. Lt. Gloer was originally of Bienville, LA, and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Minden.
David graduated from Louisiana Tech with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He graduated from the Naval Air Officers School and became a helicopter pilot. Louisiana 1st. Lt HML 167 Mag – 16 1 MAW Vietnam PH .
His obituary in the Minden Press-Herald lists Lt. David Gloer as being 25 at his death. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. (Buddy) Gloer, of Minden. He was killed in action in Vietnam on July 21, 1968, as a helicopter pilot. Lt. Goler’s vehicle was shot down by enemy gunners.
From Veterans Site he is recorded as DAVID LAWRENCE GLOER, 1 US MARINE CORPS, AIRCRAFT COMMANDER, UNIT HML – 167, QUANG NAM, SOUTH VIET NAM, 23 SEPTEMBER 1942 – 21 JULY 1968 and “A FINE YOUNG MAN WHO HAD MANY FRIENDS”.
