Village of Doyline is collecting donations to support the Doyline Police Department’s Pack the Patrol Car initiative in remembrance of Officer Billy Collins.
“I believe this is the first time the Village of Doyline has done something like this in memory of a police officer,” said Doyline Mayor Crystal Gates. “Billy’s mother contacted me about it, and said she really wanted to do this and asked if I could set it up.”
Gates has set up an account with gofundme.com for donations to the cause. It’s for persons who prefer donations to purchasing actual school/teacher supplies.
Some of the items on the most-wanted list: highlighters, expo markers, backpacks, backpacks, notebooks, Ticonderoga pencils, pens, pencil cases, Lysol wipes, Ziplock bags, binders and folders.
“When we get all the school supplies, we are going to bring Billy’s car up to Village Hall and load it up,” Gates said. “Then we are going to take them to the school in Billy’s car.”
Persons who prefer to donate funds, please visit Village of Doyline’s Facebook page and click on the gofundme link that is posted there.
Purchased items to donate can be dropped off at Village Hall between 8 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday July 10 through July 28.
Billy Collins was shot Friday, July 9, 2021 during a stand-off in Doyline. He died from his injuries. He was also a Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputy.
