Linemen already on the job after truck takes out light poles on College Street

On the day when the City of Minden is scheduled for a city-wide outage, some citizens are out of power this morning and electrical crews are already on the job.

Minden Mayor Nick Cox said a “box truck” driver apparently took out light poles along College Street near Minden High School. The school’s custodians witnessed the accident.

“On a day where we are going to be working until 4 or 5 a.m., someone decided to knock down 5 light poles and all the electrical and telephone lines,” said Cox.

Minden linemen are out in what is already 85-degree heat with sledge hammers and chain saws.

“It will be over 100 degrees again today, so these guys are mvps,” Cox said. “Hands down. One hundred percent. People may not realize how hard they work.”

The city outage will take place at 10 p.m. tonight (Thursday, August 3) when crews from AEP/SWEPCO, Entergy and City of Minden will fix the Gilark substation following a fire Sunday.
