For those traveling north and looking to turn left at Homer and Fincher roads or Homer Road and Brookshire’s, your prayers have been answered in the form of new turn arrows at those intersections.

According to Minden police reports, those intersections are high accident areas. From January 1, 2020 until Sept. 20, 2023, there were 61 accident calls near Homer and Fincher roads and 52 calls near Brookshire’s.

Louisiana DOTD Region 04 director David North said his department conducted traffic counts for both areas before they agreed to install the arrows.

DOTD’s website reads average through-traffic daily on Homer Road (U.S. Hwy. 79) is more than 9,900 vehicles. Average through-traffic count daily for Fincher Road is more than 5,200, while average for the parking lot of Walgreens is more than 1,200 daily.

In addition, average traffic for Fort Street, which intersects with Homer Road and Brookshire’s is around 2,500 daily.
