KTBS Channel 3 earlier Wednesday reported that District Judge Lane Pittard died at his home Tuesday night.
District Attorney Schuyler Marvin confirmed Pittard passed away following an illness.
For more than a decade, Pittard served as the lead prosecutor at the Bossier-Webster District Attorney’s office. He was in his second term as a 26th Judicial District Judge serving in Division C.
Pittard’s term was not set to expire until December 2026. However, he had already submitted his resignation notice to be effective next year.
Qualifying for a special election to fill the remainder of the term started today. The election is March 23.
Judge Pittard was born and reared in Webster Parish and grew up in Minden. He’s a 1978 graduate of NSU, where he studied business administration. He worked in the business field until graduating from law school in 1992, which is when he and wife Adelise moved to the Shreveport-Bossier area and he began his law career.
Minden attorney Eric Johnson posted on Facebook: “Lane Pittard was a great human being and a fine judge. He’ll be missed by his family and those who knew him. I’ll particularly miss talking stocks with him.”
Webster Clerk of Court Holly Vining wrote: “Please be in prayer for the family of Judge Lane Pittard. I have worked with him for the past 33 years and was glad to call him a friend. He is already dearly missed.”
