A report of shots being fired on city streets resulted in the arrest of two Minden men, one of whom was picked up on an outstanding warrant from the Minden Police Department.
According to Chief of Police Jared McIver, Kili Hawkins is being held in Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a weapon, while Dekerion Lewis was picked up on an outstanding warrant.
“Officers responded to reports of a person discharging a long gun at the intersection of South Gum and Gilbert,” McIver said. “When they arrived on scene, a suspect matching the description of the person firing the weapon was observed going inside a residence in the 300 block of Gilbert with what appeared to be a rifle.”
McIver said the subject refused consent to search the residence and officers then obtained a search warrant. Inside, officers found a .22 rifle. Lewis was also inside the residence and once his identity was confirmed, he was also placed in custody.
