An investigation into a June shooting incident where one individual was wounded has been concluded by Springhill police with the arrest of two individuals, one a juvenile
Chief of Police Will Lynd said 20-year-old Darious Ja’Ray Mendenhall of Cullen is in custody facing a charge of illegal use of a firearm during a crime of violence. His bond has been set at $25,000.
Lynd said the juvenile involved in the June 13 shooting was taken into custody Monday.
According to Lynd, the incident was the result of an argument between Mendenhall and the juvenile which occurred on a city street where several bystanders were present.
“Mendenhall was inside a truck and a disagreement over things led to an exchange of gunfire between him and the juvenile. This occurred around 3:30 in the afternoon, and there were other persons nearby,” Lynd said.
A passenger in Mendenhall’s vehicle was struck by gunfire, but his wound was not life-threatening, the Chief said. No others were injured during the gunfire, he said.
Mendenhall is currently being held in Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
