Springhill man facing multiple charges

A Springhill man named in several outstanding warrants now finds more charges added to the list after he attempted to resist Springhill officers making the arrest.

Chief of Police Will Lynd said 33-year-old Kevin D. Hart was being picked up on warrants for simple burglary, criminal damage and felony theft just after 9 a.m. Friday, July 12, when he attempted to resist officers.

“When our officers made contact with the suspect, one noticed a silver-looking handgun in his pants along the waist line,” Lynd said. “He began to resist their attempts to place him in custody, and moved his right hand toward his waist line where the firearm was located.”

Officers reportedly deployed non-lethal force  to subdue Hart and removed the firearm. He was taken into custody without further incident, Lynd said.

A background check by Springhill police reportedly showed Hart with multiple prior felony convictions, including some involving narcotics.

In addition to the original charges contained in warrants, Hart now faces additional counts of resisting an officer, illegal carrying of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. Total bonds of $71,500 have been set.

He is currently being held in Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
