After months of serving as interim, Robert Smart will now serve his first term as Mayor of Sibley.

Smart was unopposed in seeking the mayor’s seat and will now move on to a new chapter of public service after 25 years as an alderman in his community. Smart was named interim mayor following the death of long-time mayor Jimmy Williams.

“I am grateful to the citizens of Sibley for having the faith in me to lead our town for the next four years,” Smart said. “I’ve been in the town government 25 years and have always been willing to help at all times.”

Smart said his office will have an open door policy to better serve the residents of Sibley.

Several projects have been on the books in Sibley and Smart said those will continue to be pursued.

“We have the Weatherton Rd. Project that will happen before the end of 2024 and we have signed contracts for the Saltworks water system phase two and three. This will be completed by mid-2025.”

Applications have also been submitted for additional water wells and water main extension, he said.

“It is my honor to serve the people for the next four years. Thanks to everyone for their trust in me, and God bless,” Smart said.
