LaMa has a big announcement

LaMa’s new facility already has a foundation.

LaMa Animal Rescue and Support Services has been blessed by one of their partner rescue groups in Maine, Grammy Rose Dog Rescue and Sanctuary. They have committed to assisting in establishing an animal shelter in Webster Parish.  Plans are in development and work has begun on the facility.

“We are excited and honored by the huge blessing bestowed on us,” said LaMa director Michelle Benson Lewis. “This would not be possible without the partnership and generosity of these very special people who have a heart for animals and saw the desperate need in Webster Parish.”

Grammy Rose Dog Rescue and Sanctuary was inspired by the lives of Rose Kessler Wentworth (Grammy Rose) and her husband Ralph Edward Wentworth. The granddaughter of Rose and Ralph launched the rescue in 2021 with the mission to rescue adoptable dogs from euthanasia and provide them quality care while finding their forever families. The rescue is very unique and innovative in its approach to the home-like setting provided to the dogs waiting to be adopted.  They also provide family-friendly opportunities to engage and involve their small rural community with an onsite mini golf course and ice cream shop.  Proceeds benefit the shelter as well as enticing interest for prospective pet owners.

As the details unfold, LaMa wants the community to know this process is going to take everyone working together for the good of the parish and the animals they care for.

“This is a dream we could not have imagined without the help and support of this special group that recognized the overwhelming need and came to our aid to make this possibl,” Lewis said. “Expressing our gratitude is only one small part, we are challenged to step up from within Webster Parish and help with the building process.  We will announce specific opportunities to be a contributor in our building campaign and secure a place to honor and recognition for your business or you family pet at our new location.”

Upon completion, the shelter will allow LaMa to provide even more assistance with spay/ neuter and vaccination clinics for animals in the community. The need in Webster Parish is more than “our little town and the small group of volunteers can navigate without solid support from those we serve.  This facility is just the first step in becoming a responsible community of compassion and progress.”
