Need is great for coat donations this year

Coat bin for donations

The Junior Service League (JSL) of Minden has kicked off their 6th Annual Coat Drive.

In the past JSL has been able to donate more than 300 coats to various Webster Parish Schools per year, but it appears the need is greater now than before.

“This year we are in need of 344 coats, which is the most we have ever done,” said JSL Coat Drive Chair Marta Sramkova. “We need coats from sizes Youth XS to Adult XL.”

The club works closely with the Webster Parish School Board Community Liaison Coordinator Ursula Hullaby. Hullaby reaches out to the counselors at each individual school who then provides the number of coats, sizes and grades needing a coat for the upcoming winter season.

JSL is partnering with All Hours Fitness, Minden Police Department, Geaux Fresh, Parish Design and b1 Bank (MBL Bank Dr. Location) to ensure no child goes cold. Each of these businesses has a collection bin. But it is up to the community to rally behind this cause and donate new or gently-used coats. The last day to drop coats off is November 8.

For those who would rather make a monetary donation, the club is accepting Venmo payments to @Minden-JSL. Any donation, big or small, makes a difference.
