City of Minden has a new Main Street Director/Economic Developer.

Sarah Overall, who has been instrumental in bringing to fruition some big events downtown – including Witches Ride and the community-wide Live Nativity in the historic district – has accepted the challenge.

Overall will work with the city and the Main Street Commission to not only bring more events downtown but also to bring more businesses to that area.

“I’m excited to be a part of this administration and to keep moving Minden in the right direction,” Overall said, during Monday’s city council meeting.

A registered nurse by trade, Overall said she believes her more recent experiences will help her with the new position.

“I work in projects management for improvement in healthcare,” she said. “I feel like a lot of the tools I’ve learned from that will be helpful.”

With only Councilman Carleton Myles absent, all other city council members voted in favor of Mayor Nick Cox’s recommendation to hire Overall.

“It’s not often that you get as many good candidates for a job as we did with this one, but one just stood out above the rest of them,” Cox said, referring to Overall.

In other business, the council voted unanimously to award the bid for  Shreveport Road water improvements to Budds Construction of Haughton LLC. Budds had the lowest bid meeting all specifications at $358,384, well under the $475,000 budgeted for the project.

They also amended the City of Minden 2024-2025 budget and declared certain City of Minden property (pickup truck, dump truck and limb chipper) as surplus and fix terms of sale.
