Apaches beat Timberwolves, drop two to Quitman

A pair of losses to a strong Oak Grove team gave the Glenbrook Apaches a losing record in a three-game baseball set over the weekend.

Glenbrook 7, Darbonne Woods 3

Glenbrook started their weekend in the right direction with a 7-3 win Friday over the Darbonne Woods Timberwolves.

Glenbrook drew first blood on a Preston Frye sacrifice fly, then added another in the third on a Seth Mangrum sacrifice bunt to go up 2-0. Darbonne Woods made it 3-2 in the top of the fourth after Ethan Thrash tripled to score two and Daltin Albritton hit a sacrifice fly.

That lead lasted until the bottom of the sixth when the Apaches broke it open, scoring five runs on three hits to regain the lead. Jackson Waller provided the major blow in the inning with a two-run homer.

Sam Ricord earned the win for Glenbrook, giving up six hits and three runs in a complete game performance. He struck out three and walked only one.  Lucas Nolan took the loss for Darbonne Woods.

Mangrum and Waller collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs each to lead the Apaches. Glenbrook also accumulated four stolen bases for the game.

Oak Grove 6, Glenbrook 1

Oak Grove proved to be rude hosts Saturday, taking a pair of games from the Glenbrook Apaches, the first by a 6-1 score.

A Gaige Neal single, followed by Jacob Wiley’s double and Brodie Stuart’s single in the second gave the Tigers a quick 3-0 lead. An Apaches’ error extended the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third.

Jackson Waller, with two hits in four at bats, led the Apaches while Ryan Reagan had one hit worth one RBI. Glenbrook collected 10 walks for the game with Dawson Day, Sam Ricord, and Reagan drawing two each. Easton Sanders stole two bases as  Glenbrook stole four bases in the game.

J.T. Layton earned the win for Oak Grove while Reagan took the loss for Glenbrook.

Oak Grove 4, Glenbrook 1

Glenbrook scored first  but couldn’t hold on as the Apaches fell to Oak Grove  4-1 in another Saturday match.

Glenbrook opened the scoring in the first on a Ryan Reagan groundout, but Oak Grove reclaimed the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning. Seth Ray doubled, Luke Simmons walked and a Glenbrook error, each scored one run.

Dawson Day and Kleaton Davis each collected one hit for Glenbrook and Jackson Waller stole two bases.

Cole Maxey earned the win for Oak Grove and Easton Sanders took the loss for the Apaches.
