Lady Tiders blast past Loyola

Leigha Kennon-Gilbert drove in four runs on four hits, including a game-opening inside the park home run, to lead the Minden Lady Tiders past Loyola College Prep Flyers 16-1 Tuesday.

Minden went up 2-0 when Kaelynn Williams doubled to score a run after Kennon-Gilbert’s home run. The Lady Tiders added two runs in the second on a Kennon-Gilbert double.

Five more runs crossed in the bottom of the third on six hits. Williams doubled, scoring one run, Annabelle Toland nailed a two-run homer,   Kennon-Gilbert singled in another and Tatum Oliver doubled for one more.

Seven more Lady Tiders runs scored in the fourth, with Lizzie Balkom leading the way on an inside the park home run and a triple for three RBI in the inning. to extend the lead to 16-1.

Lindsay Ryan earned the win for Minden, going four innings and giving up no hits and one unearned run. She struck out nine and had no walks.

Minden had 15 hits in the game with Ryan, Williams, Oliver, and Balkom also collected multiple hits for the Lady Tiders. Kennon-Gilbert stole two bases.

Falcons hang on to beat Tide, even with three homers

Minden had three home runs, two by Bryson Ranger, but the Northwood Falcons managed to hang on for a 9-5 win over the Tide Tuesday.

Home runs by Ranger and Landyn Huddleston put the Tide on the board in the top of the first, but Northwood’s Jaxon Bentzler cut into that lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.

Ranger’s second of the day, a two-run shot in the top of the third put the Tide up 4-1 before the Falcons came back with four in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-4 lead.

Bentzler earned the win for Northwood giving up five hits and five runs (four earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Ranger took the loss for Minden.
