Minden police investigators are currently looking into the circumstances of what is being considered the “suspicious” death of a two-year-old child allegedly left unattended and locked in a car seat at a Young St. residence.
Chief Jared McIver said his department was informed of the death around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Detectives responding to the report learned the child had been taken to the Minden Medical Center and immediately proceeded there.
According the the Chief, the young girl was taken by private vehicle to the hospital where attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.
McIver said information uncovered so far shows no adults were in the home where the child was secured in the car seat. Early investigation suggests the car seat locking mechanism may have malfunctioned, causing the child to choke.
Investigators also learned a 10-month-old child was in the house at the time of the incident, but was unharmed.
“We’re awaiting autopsy results and viewing film to make further determinations in this case,” McIver said. “No charges have been filed at this time, but this is still under investigation.”
