Springhill man arrested on multiple drug charges

A vehicle’s shattered windshield proved to be the undoing of a Springhill man who is now sitting in the parish prison looking at multiple illegal drug distribution charges.

Springhill Chief of Police Will Lynd said after officers stopped a vehicle with a damaged windshield blocking the driver’s view Wednesday, the driver and passenger were asked if anything illegal was inside. Both reportedly denied the presence of any illegal goods.

A Springhill officer and his K9 arrived on scene, and the occupants of the vehicle were asked to exit while the K9 performed an outside-the-vehicle sniff search.

After exiting the vehicle, the passenger reportedly fled. Following a brief foot chase through back yards, officers reportedly apprehended 45-year-old Larry D. Spurling, a resident of the 300 block of Center Park Dr.

During a search of Spurling’s attempted escape route by Springhill’s K9, officers located a zip pouch with seven bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a bag containing suspected LSD strips.

Officers also reportedly discovered a bag of suspected Ecstasy, a syringe and just over $200 in cash on Spurling’s person after he was arrested.

Spurling is charged with possession with intent to distribute CDS Sch. II (methamphetamines), possession with intent to distribute CDS Sch. II (Ecstasy), possession with intent to distribute CDS Sch. I (LSD), drug racketeering and flight from an officer.

He reportedly is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center where his bond is set at $60,000.
