Town of Sibley’s road construction projects beginning soon

By Shannon Wright

The latest Sibley Town Council meeting was a brief one, but it brought with it several important community updates.

After months of anticipation, long-awaited road construction projects have officially begun. Residents can expect to see crews working in and around the NE 5th Avenue and Weatherton Street areas as the projects move forward.

In other business, the Town has submitted a new grant application to help complete the Saltworks Water System project. According to officials, funds from the original grant ran out before the project could be fully completed, which is a result of rising supply costs.  Grant approvals can be a lengthy process, so it’s uncertain when, or even if, the town will receive the funding, though officials remain hopeful.

Looking ahead, Sibley will play host to the Small Town Mayor’s Conference, scheduled for September 24–25 at the Minden Civic Center. The event is expected to bring together local leaders from around the state for collaboration and discussion.

Residents are also invited to participate in National Night Out, which will be observed on October 7 at the Sibley Town Hall. More details will be shared on the Town of Sibley Facebook page as the date approaches.

Mayor Robert Smart and the Council continue to encourage community engagement and remind residents that monthly council meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
