Man fights officer; lands in parish jail

Fighting with a police officer has landed a Minden man in the parish prison looking at a collection of charges following an incident shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Kendrick Roshaud Harris, a 42-year-old Sheppard St. resident, is charged with resisting an officer w/force or violence, disturbing the peace by public intoxication, obstruction of justice, possession of CDS Sch.I(synthetic marijuana) and pedestrian on highway.

He reportedly is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. No bond has been set.

MPD Officer Ben Sparks reportedly was on patrol in the Martin Luther King Dr. area when he spotted Harris walking in the middle of the road in an intoxicated state. Harris reportedly became extremely combative after the officer made contact.

During the altercation Harris reportedly struck the officer in the neck while attempting to avoid arrest. He reportedly knocked the officer’s radio and other items from his equipment vest during the struggle, and continued to fight until backup arrived to assist.
