Minden Lions Club installs eyeglasses recycling box at Springhill Library

The Minden Lions Club is proud to announce the addition of an eyeglasses recycling box to the north end of Webster Parish. This box is in addition to the two recycling boxes currently located in Minden – one across from Roma Italian Bistro and one next to Bealls/Tractor Supply.

Donated eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses are collected and forwarded to the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation so they can be processed, recycled and distributed to those in need. Both adult and children’s glasses are needed.

According to Lions Club International, refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions of people living in low- and middle-income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions Clubs across the world have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities to support the Lions Recycle for Sight Program.

“We get calls and messages all the time from people in the Springhill area asking if there is a place to donate eyeglasses there, but to our knowledge there was not,” said Minden Lions Club Past President Tracy L. Campbell, who spearheads the club’s donation box projects. “Once we discovered that the Springhill Lions Club had disbanded, we decided to design a drop-off box for the North Webster area. And with Springhill being my hometown, I wanted to go above and beyond.”

The bright yellow box can be accessed outside the Mack Memorial Branch of the Webster Parish Library, located at 1000 S. Arkansas St. in Springhill.

The Minden Lions Club wishes to thank Perryman Welding for donating their powder coating services, as well as other contributors Lion Patony Morrow and Sherri Gilley. Special thanks to the Webster Parish Library for allowing the eyeglasses recycling box to be placed at the Springhill library.
