Saturday’s Witches Ride was magical

By Paige Gurgainers

Not even a little Louisiana rain storm could dampen the magic of the 3rd Annual Witches Ride of Minden, held Saturday, October 25. While morning showers prompted organizers to move some festivities indoors to the Minden Civic Center, the popular community parade rolled on through downtown as planned.

Hosted by Pearls of Purpose, the event brought together hundreds of participants and spectators for a day full of fun, fellowship and fundraising. The Witches Ride has quickly become a beloved fall tradition, featuring costumed riders on bikes, scooters and golf carts “flying” through the Historic Main Street District before gathering for live music, vendors and awards.

Inside the Civic Center, attendees shopped local vendors, enjoyed food and took in live music, while the streets outside buzzed with excitement as witches and warlocks of all ages showed off their most spellbinding costumes and decked-out rides.

This year’s winners included:

Best Individual:
Sharon Chandler
Elaine Eaton
Shelia Brantley

Best Ride:
Witch Rocker
The Endora Endeavor
Hocus Pocus

Best Coven:
You’re the Witch That I Want
Day of the Dead

People’s Choice:

Proceeds from the Witches Ride benefit Pearls of Purpose will be used to help fund holiday meals through the Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry and books for local first graders.

With its mix of spooky fun and heartfelt purpose, this year’s Witches Ride of Minden proved that a little rain, and a lot of spirit, can make for one unforgettable Saturday.
