A complaint of trespassers at a storage building in a local neighborhood turned into a drug arrest and a 60-year-old Minden man is now in custody on possession and distribution charges.

Richard T. Cannady, a resident of the 100 block of Kristin Lane, was arrested just before 8 p.m. Friday by police officers patrolling the area in response to the complaints. Patrol officers reportedly located him parked in a yard in the 400 block of Whitlock St.

Cannady reportedly is charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (methamphetamines) with intent to distribute, possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. No bond has been set.

Officers reportedly approached Cannady and received permission to search his person. During the pat-down, officers reportedly found a packet containing 2.85 grams of methamphetamines in his pants pocket.

A further search revealed a total of 2.23 grams of methamphetamines in four separate baggies reportedly hidden in a cigarette pack taken from Cannady’s shirt pocket. Several knives reportedly were also found during the search.

After searching Cannady, officers received permission to look inside his vehicle. Inside, officers reportedly found two unused hypodermic needles, one rolled marijuana joint and a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamines.
