A Springhill man is currently lodged in the parish prison after he allegedly was caught on video slamming an eight-year-old into a wall, causing a head wound that required emergency treatment.

Springhill Chief of Police Will Lynd said  31-year-old Kaleb Paul Beraud is charged with second degree cruelty to juveniles in connection with the Sunday incident which reportedly was caught on security footage at a residence in the 800 block of N. Arkansas St.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

According to statements, the child’s mother logged into her security camera footage while he was being treated by medical staff for an open and bleeding head wound. Video footage reportedly showed the incident unfolding with Beraud shouting for the eight-year-old and his four-year-old sister to leave his bedroom.

As the children reportedly walked toward the bedroom door to leave, Beraud is shown slapping the eight-year-old on the back of his head, telling him “to lose the attitude.” When the child reportedly says he is going to tell his mother, Beraud steps forward and forcefully shoves him into a wall.

When the youngster is shown on video falling to the ground and beginning to scream, Beraud is seen checking on him and quickly closing the bedroom door.

At the Springhill police station, the child’s head wound reportedly was observed wrapped in a blue medical bandage. The child’s mother reportedly said the medical staff initially wanted to use staples to close the wound, but were able to do so without staples.
