Luncheon free for those facing shelter challenges in community; help needed

By Marilyn Miller

Organizations, churches, private citizens and more from across Webster Parish are combining their resources on Friday, Nov. 21 to host a luncheon for those individuals and families who have fallen on challenging times during the holiday season.

The “love luncheon” will take place at the Minden Presbyterian Church gymnasium on the corner of Broadway and Lewisville Road. It will start at 12 noon and is totally FREE of charge.

“We are full steam ahead to offer FREE Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, Nov. 21,” said D’ McCoy, spokesman for a special committee which has been working toward finding solutions to help the homeless in Minden since September 2025.

“We need volunteers to prepare the meal, serve it, and clean up,” D’ said, adding that “Please, please, please…this is our opportunity to show love and support for those in our community who are facing challenges and insecurity during the holiday season.”

There is much to be done, and little time in which to do it.

Donations of ham, chicken and dressing, rolls, green bean casserole, desserts, casseroles, drinks, ice and more have come in, but more of the same is needed if the crowd swells to a projected level.

“Let us know what you or your church, neighborhood, group or co-workers wish to provide,” D’ said.
