• What is your role with the LSU AgCenter, and how long have you been in Extension?
I serve as the Parish Chair of the Webster Parish Extension Office and as the Nutrition & Community Health Agent for Webster, Claiborne, and Lincoln Parishes. As Parish Chair, I provide leadership and administrative oversight for our parish office, ensuring that our programs, staff, and day‑to‑day operations run efficiently. I guide program planning, oversee reporting and accountability, support faculty and staff, manage budgets and resources, and strengthen collaboration across our parishes. I also work closely with community partners, local agencies, and stakeholders to expand outreach and ensure that Extension services meet the needs of the people we serve.
In addition to these administrative responsibilities, I lead programs focused on nutrition education, community wellness, food safety, and health promotion across all three parishes. I work with youth, adults, and seniors to provide practical, hands‑on learning experiences that support healthier lifestyles. I have been working in Extension for almost six years.
My educational background includes a dual Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Doctorate in Health Sciences (DHSc) with a concentration in Education. This training has strengthened my expertise in public health, community engagement, and instructional leadership, allowing me to design programs that are both evidence‑based and accessible to all audiences.
I was inspired to join Extension because I wanted a career grounded in service, education, and meaningful community impact. Extension gives me the opportunity to teach, connect with diverse groups, and help people build practical skills that improve their daily lives. Whether through nutrition, health, or youth development, I am motivated by the chance to make a real difference in the well‑being of individuals, families, and communities.
• What programs or areas do you specialize in?
I specialize in delivering practical nutrition education and wellness programs that help individuals and families make healthier choices. My work includes teaching balanced meal planning, offering hands‑on cooking demonstrations, and promoting food safety practices that support healthier lifestyles. I also lead Flavors of Health and Healthy Communities initiatives, collaborating with partners to expand access to nutritious foods, support community gardens and seed libraries, and create environments that make healthy living easier.
In addition, I provide tailored nutrition and cooking classes for youth and adults, focusing on simple, budget‑friendly meals and strategies for managing health conditions. My community outreach extends across schools, libraries, churches, and local organizations, where I coordinate workshops, events, and health promotion activities. Through these efforts, I aim to ensure that Extension remains a trusted, accessible resource for promoting wellness across all three parishes.
• What do you enjoy most about serving your community?
I enjoy building relationships and creating programs that truly meet people where they are. Seeing individuals, families, and communities grow healthier and more confident is incredibly rewarding. Knowing my work makes a positive difference is what I love most about Extension.
• What is one goal you’re excited to work on this year?
This year, I am excited to continue strengthening community partnerships and expanding hands‑on nutrition education opportunities across all three parishes. I’m especially looking forward to enhancing our cooking classes by incorporating more interactive, skill‑building activities that meet the needs of youth, adults, and seniors. I also plan to continue to support local food initiatives that encourage gardening, increase access to fresh produce, and promote self‑sufficiency for families.
In addition, I hope to deepen collaboration with schools, libraries, health agencies, and community organizations to broaden our reach and create more unified health and wellness efforts. Supporting youth and families’ remains a major priority, and I am committed to developing programs that are engaging, culturally relevant, and meaningful. Overall, I am excited about the opportunity to build healthier communities, expand Extension’s presence, and continue providing resources that empower people to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
If you ever have questions or need support with any of our programs, feel free to get in touch I’m always happy to help.
