Two persons, including a 10-year-old, died Saturday when a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) exited a Bossier Parish roadway and overturned.

Louisiana State Police identified the victims as 10-year-old Bella Cassell and 31-year-old Callie Durbin, both Benton residents. A third passenger in the UTV reportedly sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

A preliminary investigation reportedly showed the UTV, driven by Cassell, was traveling on Merritt Rd. near Merry Lane around 8:15 p.m. For unknown reasons, the UTV ran off the roadway, overturned and ejected all passengers. None of the individuals reportedly were wearing a DOT-approved helmet.

Durbin reportedly was pronounced dead at the scene, while Cassell was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

State police are continuing to investigate the accident.
