Alleged shooter in custody; second degree murder charge filed

A 23-year-old Minden man has been charged in the Friday night shooting incident which sent a local man to the hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Kendric D. Taylor, Jr., a Plum St. resident, is charged with attempted second degree murder and assault by drive-by shooting after firing multiple shots at the victim in the vicinity of Talton and Peach streets.

Taylor was arrested Saturday following interviews with Minden detectives. He is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $950,000 bond.

Minden Chief of Police Jared McIver said Taylor’s arrest came less than 12 hours after the shooting was reported.

“The shooting occurred around 8 o’clock Friday night and we had him in custody Saturday morning,” McIver said. “Our guys worked all night, following up on every lead and their diligence paid off. We picked him up at a Minden residence.”

Following leads developed from witnesses and electronic surveillance, officers reportedly traced the suspected shooter’s vehicle from  Minden to Bossier City and back. With the assistance of Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies, the vehicle was stopped early Saturday morning just south of Sibley.

McIver said the investigation into the shooting hasn’t stop with Taylor’s arrest.

“We know there were others in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and we’re still looking for potential accessories to the incident,” he said. “We don’t intend to stop until we have everybody involved, no matter what their capacity, and until we have a motive for what happened.”
