Minden man’s wood becomes art

Craig Watson can look at a tree laying on the ground and see something more than just potentially rotting wood. A

trip to his Goodwill Rd. workshop will turn that piece of wood into a work of art.

It’s called “Woodturning,” and Watson has displayed many of his works on the Internet and in exhibits. His most recent display was an exhibit at Sanctuary Art School (SAS) Gallery at Bossier City’s Boardwalk.

Two of his pieces drew special attention. “She Wore Red Beads” was carved from a sassafras tree that once lived behind his Goodwill Rd. office; the other was a former Campti, LA cedar that woodturned into a vase, “Victory Cedar.”

He expects to be displaying more of his works in the future in exhibits across the country.
