The regular meeting of the Dixie Inn Board of Aldermen took place Tuesday, Aug. 11. After bringing the meeting to order, Mayor Donna Hoffoss asked for additions to the agenda. There being none, she closed the Regular Meeting and opened a Public Hearing for public comment on the proposed Ordinance #137, dealing with ABO cards.
After no negative comment and board discussion, the ordinance passed unanimously. As of Oct. 1, 2026, Ordinance #137 declares that all owners and employees of businesses and restaurants who handle the sale of alcoholic beverages must qualify and carry an ABO card.
An ABO (Alcoholic Beverage Operator) Card is required in Louisiana for anyone who sells, serves, or handles alcoholic beverages in a business, event, or on-premises setting. It ensures employees understand state and local alcohol laws, including age restrictions, responsible service, and penalties for violations.
After opening the regular session of the meeting, Mayor Hoffoss asked for reports from aldermen. Lance Milligan reported that the State performed a study on the area where Hwy. 80 enters into Dixie Inn from the west. It was recommended that the speed limits be posted at 45 mph coming off the bridge (now 50 mph), lowering to 35 beginning where the furniture company was located. The postings must be approved by the La. Dept. of Transportation & Development (DOTD).
The aldermen also unanimously approved a bi-weekly spraying for mosquito control by VDCI of Ruston at $500 per application. Spraying will take place from May through September.
“Halloween in the Park” will be hosted by the Village of Dixie Inn again this year. Details will be released at a later date.
Mayor Hoffoss also asked the aldermen and all departments to assist with “Christmas on the Bayou 2026.”
“I would like to see the trees around the boat ramp decorated and lighted, and perhaps we can have fireworks and food trucks,” the mayor said.
