DeSoto Parish street level interdiction unit makes nine arrests during August narcotics roundup
The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Street Level Interdiction Unit made nine arrests during August as part of ongoing efforts targeting illegal narcotics and related criminal activity in and around the parish.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the arrests involved allegations including possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone, marijuana, mushrooms and drug paraphernalia, along with firearm and traffic-related offenses.
Sheriff Jayson Richardson commended members of the Street Level Interdiction Unit, or S.L.I.U., for their continued work addressing illegal drugs in DeSoto Parish. The Sheriff’s Office said those efforts are part of its mission to protect local communities and reduce the availability of dangerous narcotics.
Louisiana Grandstand announces multi-phase development at Louisiana Boardwalk
The Louisiana Grandstand is entering a new chapter with plans for a new, privately funded, multi-phase destination at the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City.
The development will bring together live music, dining, hospitality, history and entertainment along the Red River, starting with The Parish Standard, a roughly 220-seat Louisiana-inspired restaurant and dedicated listening room set to open in November 2026.
A future Louisiana Grandstand auditorium, with an anticipated capacity of approximately 2,700 guests, is currently targeted to open in the first quarter of 2027, along with plans for museum experiences, outdoor spaces and additional destination-focused amenities.
Bossier City Council advances two new riverfront economic development districts
The Bossier City Council voted Tuesday to advance an ordinance establishing two new economic development districts along the Bossier City riverfront, designed to unite and promote the area’s growing entertainment and hospitality attractions. The districts would provide a framework for coordinated development, marketing, and investment along the Red River corridor. A final vote is expected at a subsequent council meeting.
Weekend shooting leaves two Ruston men wounded
Two Ruston men were shot in an exchange of gunfire Sunday night in southeast Ruston.
Lt. Kayla Loyd of the Ruston Police Department said an investigation of the shooting is underway.
Loyd said patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of South Farmerville Street at 11:18 p.m. Sunday night. Officers discovered William Green Jr., 24, of Ruston, suffering from gunshot wounds. Green was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.During the investigation, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office notified RPD of a second man who had sought medical attention in Ouachita Parish for a gunshot wound. Investigators determined this individual also traveled from the Ruston scene, Loyd said.
Brush fire near Clarence advances into Hay Field, fire contained
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District No. 3, with mutual aid assistance from Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District No. 9 and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, were dispatched at 1 p.m. to a reported brush fire in the 1700 block of Clark Road near Clarence, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Units arrived to find the fire advancing toward a hay field. Deputies believe the fire originated from a downed power line. SWEPCO was on scene. There were no reported injuries.
Caney Creek Bridge replacement reaches next stage of construction
Work on the bridge replacement project at Caney Creek on Louisiana Highway 146 is continuing to move forward, according to an update from the Claiborne Parish Police Jury.
As of Aug. 31, all box culverts had been installed at the project site and were ready for the next stage of construction.
