A traffic stop for a moving violation has moved an Arkansas man to a cell in the parish prison on a pair of illegal drug charges.

Chief of Police Jared McIver said 44-year-old Doyle Keith Hooks of Stephens, Arkansas, was pulled over by Officer Kendale Booker on the Shreveport Rd. just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for a traffic violation.

A strong odor of unburned marijuana was reportedly noticed by the officer when he approached the driver for questioning. Probable cause reportedly was established and the officer searched the vehicle.

During the search, the officer reportedly found approximately 6.2 grams of suspected methamphetamines and five Hydrocodone pills in the vehicle’s center console.

Hooks reportedly admitted ownership of the drugs and, during questioning, told the officer he used the illegal substances to “help him deal with life.”

Hooks was booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center where he is charged with possession of CDS Sch. II (methamphetamines), possession of CDS Sch.II (Hydrocodone) and improper lane usage. Bond has not been set.
