What began as an attempt to serve a felony arrest warrant Monday became a hunt for narcotics at a local apartment and a 28-year-old man is now facing a number of drug charges.
Chief of Police Jared McIver said Kentravian Venquariae Washington, a resident of the 900 block of Carolina St., was arrested after a large quantity of drugs and cash were discovered in his residence.
McIver said officers went to Washington’s apartment to serve a warrant for aggravated flight from officers. Washington was confronted outside his apartment, detained and searched. Officers reportedly found just over $4,000 in his front left pocket.
Officers reportedly noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the apartment and obtained a search warrant. Officer Kendale Booker and K9 Reef were dispatched for a search, and the K9 reportedly gave a positive response at two locations.
A subsequent search by officers reportedly revealed roughly 437 grams of natural marijuana, two marijuana cigarillos, and clear bags containing Ecstasy, hydrocodone and crack cocaine.
Officers also found digital scales, a spoon with crack cocaine residue, a dollar bill with crack cocaine residue, a milk jug containing just over $200 in cash, a safe and numerous clear zip bags, some with assorted labels of flavored cannabis depicted.
Washington reportedly is charged with possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, possession of CDS Sch. II (Ecstasy), possession of CDS Sch. II (Hydrocodone), possession of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia and on warrant for aggravated flight from an officer.
He is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $45,001 bond.
