Minden Police responded to a “shots fired” incident near a Talton Street convenience store around 8:40 p.m. Thursday where a Bastrop man was injured.

According to Police Chief Steve Cropper, Officer Jason Lee noticed a vehicle pulling away from the scene and attempted a traffic stop.

“There were two occupants in the vehicle,” Cropper said. “As the officer asked them to step out, he heard someone behind him call out that someone in the store had been shot.”

Off. Lee reportedly returned to the store to tend to the victim, and the two occupants fled the scene.

“The one shot was a 22-year-old black male from Bastrop,” said the chief. “He was struck in the groin area. An ambulance responded, and he was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with a non-life threatening injury.”

Officers reportedly located the two subjects.

“They have been detained but not yet charged,” Cropper said. “The vehicle they were in had a firearm and several grams of natural Marijuana.”

The investigation is ongoing.
