MPD arrests stalker on drug charges

Minden Police arrested a local man Tuesday evening, who was stalking the resident who asked him to leave.

Christopher A. Yates, 39, of Pine Street, Minden, was arrested by Lt. Chris McClaran and Off. Jason Lee and charged with possession of Sch. II Crystal Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

“Dispatch told the officers that a white male in blue jeans and a camouflage jacket was asked to leave the Pine Street residence,” said Chief Steve Cropper. “He walked across the street into a wooded area and was then stalking the homeowner.”

Cropper said Lt. McClaran made contact with the subject who was wearing a backpack and identified him as Christopher Yates.

“The lieutenant said that when he interviewed the subject, Yates made a spontaneous, unprovoked utterance – saying he had a drug addiction problem,” said the chief. “When asked about the type of drug, Yates said Crystal Meth.”

Cropper said Lt. McClaran asked Yates if he had any crystal meth on his person and he answered yes, inside his backpack. McClaran reportedly asked for permission to search the backpack and inside found a black camera bag with a glass pipe used for smoking meth. It was wrapped in a dirty towel.

“The lieutenant also observed a clear plastic baggie in a black film canister,” said Cropper. “Inside the baggie were 1.1 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine.”

Yates was transported to MPD and then to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
