North Webster Knights lose to Bulldogs 35-14

By Gray Haynes

Friday night, the North Webster Knights took the trip across the state line to Garrison, Texas to battle the Bulldogs.  Garrison won the coin toss and deferred their option to the second half.  The Knights took the opening kickoff out to the 15 yard line and fumbled on the second play from scrimmage.  The Knight defense was, however, up to the task and forced a field goal attempt by Garrison.  The kick split the uprights to make the score 3-0 Garrison early in the game.  The ensuing kickoff was returned to the 32 by the Knights.  After not being able to get anything going on offense, the Knights were forced to punt.  Garrison took over at their own 37.  The Bulldogs drove all the way down to the North Webster 5 yard line before fumbling the ball back to the Knights.  The purple and black were able to drive the ball out to the 40 before having to punt it back to Garrison.

Garrison took over, after the punt, at their own 27 yard line.  The Bulldogs methodically drove the ball down the field.  Just after the second quarter began, Garrison scored their first touchdown of the night.  After a penalty negated the missed extra point, the Bulldog kicker was true on the PAT to make the score 10-0 Garrison.  North Webster took the kickoff out to their own 24 yard line.  After picking up a first down, the Knights were forced to punt.  Garrison took over at their own 31 and was forced to punt from the 44.  North Webster took over at the 9 yard line.  The Knights pushed the ball out past midfield and fumbled the ball back to the 35 where they were forced to punt.

Garrison took over at their own 32.  With 0:09 on the first half clock, Garrison punched it in.  The PAT was good to make the score 17-0 at the half.  To begin the second half, North Webster kicked off to the Bulldogs.  Garrison began their opening drive at the 28 yard line.  The two teams traded punts.  Then, Garrison began an eight-one yard drive culminating in another field goal with 2:43 left in the third quarter.  That made the score 20-0 Garrison.  North Webster’s Jameson Harden took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown up the home sideline.  The PAT made the score 20-7.

After a big kickoff return by Garrison, their offense stalled out at the North Webster 28 where the Knights took over on downs.  North Webster was forced to punt to begin the final period.  Garrison returned the punt for a touchdown.  After the two point conversion, the score was Garrison 28 North Webster 7.  North Webster took the kickoff and drove out to midfield where the visiting team fumbled the ball to Garrison.  The Knights defense held tough and forced a turnover on downs at the 44 yard line.  Garrison, then, took control of the ball right back with an interception at their own 35.  Garrison marched down the field and scored their final touchdown to make the score 35-7 after the extra point.  North Webster took over at the 30 yard line after the kickoff.  In a quick drive with Braeden Robertson carrying the bulk of the load, the Knights scored on a run by Robertson.  The PAT made the final score Garrison 35 North Webster 14.  Next week, North Webster will face Carroll in the first district matchup of the season.
