Lakeside teams fall to opponents last week

Westlake’s number four seed Rams eliminated the Lakeside Warriors from LHSAA Division III (Non-Select) state playoff competition with wins Thursday and Friday in the best-of-three regionals.

Game 1 Thursday

Westlake 8, Lakeside 2

A six-run sixth inning put the opening game of the series on ice for Westlake.

Westlake scored first when Grayden Ross tripled and Brody Anderson singled, each driving in one run. Gage Williams singled to bring Lakeside into a tie at two in the top of the sixth.

Hadley Hardesty earned the win for the Rams, giving up just one hit over seven innings, striking out four and walking four. Williams took the loss for Lakeside.

Williams had Lakeside’s only hit and led the team with one run batted in.

Game 2 (Friday)

Westlake 23, Lakeside 8

A pair of nine-run innings late in the game pushed Westlake into the regional round.

Lakeside had taken the lead in the bottom of the second inning after RBI singles from Noah Redding and Peyton Gray, followed by a Redding steal of home.

After Westlake made it 5-4 in the top of the third, the Warriors jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the inning on a Gage Williams RBI single and Eli Campbell’s three run home run.

Westlake then proceeded to push nine runs across in the top of the fourth and again scored nine times in the top of the seventh.

Kash Martin earned the win for Westlake in relief, allowing two hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings. Gray took the loss for Lakeside.

Drake Chreene, Campbell, and Williams each collected two hits for Lakeside.

Mangham 4, Lakeside girls 2

Lakeside’s Lady Warriors dropped a 4-2 decision to Mangham when M. Wiggins doubled in two runs in the top of the seventh to seal the comeback win Friday.

Things were scoreless until the fifth when Mangham finally got on the board, but a single byTeal Austin gave the lead at  2-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

A Hardie earned the win for Mangham while McKenna Chreene took the loss for Lakeside, going the full seven innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits, striking out eight and walking none.

Emily Jones went two-for-three at the plate to lead Lakeside in hits.
